Almost seven decades ago while fighting for India’s freedom Gandhiji was seeking political reconciliation between Indians and Britishers, religious reconciliation between Hindus and Muslims and social reconciliation between upper caste and dalits. Post Independence we lost the plot and Indian state failed to decentralize political discourse and reconciliation. For reconciliation to happen in the family or the nation, responsibility may need to replace blame; a readiness to understand may need to become more important than the longing to be understood.
