Shruti says, ‘when we initiated the school first teacher gave resign and then we appointed a women teacher who faced domestic violence in her life. We initiated adult literacy, campaign against police torture and the illegal activities by the criminal in that area. Whole process in the grass – root are mostly implemented by the women activist and responsible men for women rights so, a gender perspective is very strong in process against the existing concept of masculinity.’Read more...

Shruti was born and brought up in a middle class family as the eldest child. Her father was employed with the Life Insurance Company. She studied up to intermediate (Pre-University studies) at Basant Kanya Vidyalaya founded by Annie Beasant of the Theosophical Society of India. Since her childhood days, Shruti nourished the idea of a just and equitable society and often used to get deeply disturbed by looking at the existing social inequalities and exploitation and especially the widening gap between the rich and the poor in her native city of Varanasi where poor people were often forced to go to bed without food. Despite family opposition to her ideas, Shruti took up the challenge to work and help the poor and the deprived.Read more...

It was not before three reminders to the Chief Secretary, including one final, that the Special Secretary, PWD, UP Government, Lucknow, sent a report that after receiving a cheque for Rs. 9,10,000/- as sale consideration, Triveni Devi executed sale deed of the land in favour of the Government of UP through Executive Engineer, Mahoba. The copies of the reports of other officers and a copy of the registered sale deed were also sent to the Commission as proof of justice done in her case.Read more...
